The sections of the Goethe B2 exam

The timings and exam sections are summarised according to the current information from the Goethe-Institut.

Listening

40 minutes

Understand interviews, talks, conversations and statements from everyday life and radio.

Reading

65 minutes

Understand forum posts, newspaper and magazine articles, comments and regulations.

Writing

75 minutes

Formulate a reasoned opinion on a social topic and write a formal message in a professional context.

Speaking

15 minutes

Give a short presentation and then discuss the topic with your exam partner.

Preparation for the Goethe B2 exam

You need to be able to retrieve your knowledge under exam conditions.

That is why we do not train only grammar or isolated tasks. Listening and reading comprehension, writing, speaking, understanding instructions confidently and dealing with time pressure are all essential. Unexpected situations – such as a technical problem during the listening section – are also discussed so you know when to speak to the exam supervisor.
