Private German lessons or a small group: which course is right for you?
1:1 lessons or a small group? The best German course is not the same for everyone. What matters are your goal, schedule, exam date, budget and how much free speaking practice you need.
Short answer
A small group is often an ideal balance between individual attention and genuine communication with other learners.
Both one-to-one lessons and small groups focus on active use of German rather than passive listening.
Why is a small group particularly helpful?
Small groups make it easier to ask questions, correct mistakes straight away and practise new structures. In our live classes with 3–6 participants, there is more room for this than in larger groups.
- Private lessons: one learner; small group: 3–6 learners.
- Group classes offer real dialogues with different speakers.
- There is still room for individual feedback.

Who benefits most from this approach?
This approach is especially relevant if you are learning German alongside work, for daily life or for a telc or Goethe exam. Consistent progress is more important than short-lived test performance.
